in short:
exactly what is this?
A 6 day handstand retreat in Skjolden, located at the end of the worlds longest and deepest fjord Sogndalsfjorden, which is at the root of Norways tallest mountain chain: Jotunheimen.
We will stay in two gigantic multi-floor cabins with fjord-view, sauna, kitchen and a big handstandable balcony.
We will train handstands for about three hours between breakfast and lunch, and go on hikes to mountain viewpoints, rib-boats and other activities during the afternoon before dinner and sauna time in the evenings.
One day we will have rest day from training and go on a full-blown expedition over a glacier or rafting and zip line.
My goal is to share with you the best Norway experience from a locals perspective, combined with increasing your handstand skills and learning during this week.
Handstand training
There will be handstand training and practice for around three hours on four of the days. It will take place in a spacious gymnasium five-minute walking distance from our accommodation. It got wall space and hard floor for predictable and focused practice. Everyone will get a great training experience! You should learn how a training session feels and what YOU need to focus on to improve from where you are now.
There will be two separate retreats with 12 spots per retreat.
Fundamental / intermediate retreat
We will focus on everything that’s needed to do a freestanding straight handstand with good form and duration. We will do shapes like tuck, straddle and a bit of press work for those who are ready for it.
Pre reqs: 40-50 sec handstand facing the wall + some understanding of balance
Not there yet? START NOW and you will be
Intermediate / Advanced retreat
We will focus on improving form and consistency with basic and advanced shapes on two arms. Develop a press, and practice towards a one arm handstand
Pre reqs: Consistent 30+ sec freestanding straight handstand, a strong tuck and familiar with other shapes as well.
More detailed training plan will come closer to the retreat.
Not sure what would make most sense for you? Feel free to talk to me about it!
Our accomadation
We will stay in Skjolden which is a village located in the end of the worlds longest and deepest fjord: Sognefjorden which also is by the roots of the tallest mountain chain in Norway: Jotunheimen. I go here many times per year, especially when bringing friends and family with me to show them Norway at its most spectacular.
You will see water in a collar that looks radioactive or like someone increased the saturation to ridiculous levels before posting it on insta. You will see waterfalls that look like AI made them, and mountains so majestic that you will just stare at them. Phone in the pocket. Jaw to the ground. MOUNTAIN!
We will share two gigantic huts with fjord-view and saunas. Yes, you can jump from the balcony, or the roof if you want to, into the water to wake you up each morning.
There will be possibility to book single, double or triple rooms. All rooms are very spacious, and we have living rooms and kitchens.
For dinner in the evening, we will eat food made from local ingredients at the local restaurant. Breakfast and lunch will be made in the apartments. There will be vegan/vegetarian options. There’s also a store nearby if you fancy something extra or different.

pricing and payment
Unfortunately, Norway is not a budget friendly country. There will however be possible to cut down on costs by sharing a room with one or two other participants. It’s also possible to go for cheaper food options and not join the expedition. You don’t need to decide on any of this until closer to the retreat and we will have a zoom-meeting where we explain and talk about the different options in detail.
To reserve your spot the only thing you need to consider right now is to pay a non-refundable deposit of €500. Do this BEFORE 1st of November and you will get the early bird price when the rest of the payment is due 15th of January.
Early bird prices:
Single room: €2250
Double room: €1900
Tripple room: €1750
If you are currently an online client of mine, you will get a €100 discount.
This is what’s included in the price:
Accommodation, training, rental of gymnasium, rib-boat adventure, guide to mountain hut, jacuzzi, sauna.
This is NOT included:
Transportation from Oslo to Skjolden and back (about €100), food (about €50-70/day), adventure day (about €150-200)
Practical info
-
From Oslo to Skjolden there is about a 5 hour beautiful car drive. The easiest, cheapest and fastest way to get there is to rent cars. The drive in itself I would consider as a part of the experience.
We will organize this together as a group and split the cost. It will likely be around 100€ total per person. You are also welcome to explore other options on your own if it suits your plans better. For example: Flight or bus to Sogndal. We will communicate and plan this clearly before the trip, so everyone is accounted for. -
The retreat starts on Tuesday afternoon/evening in Skjolden, and ends Sunday afternoon in Skjolden. It’s around a 5 hour drive from Oslo, so that’s what we need to take into consideration.
Since we will organize renting cars together, we need to synchronize this to our best abilities as a group.
Oslo airport (OSL) is just a 20min train ride from Oslo. So it’s easy to “kill time” in Oslo before and after the retreat if you want to check it out for a day or two if that matches your flight schedule the best.
-
To lock in your spot you will pay a deposit. You will then get a questionnaire with options to book single-room, double-room or a triple-room. You will get an invoice for the rest of the payment with a deadline at 15th of January.
When spots fill up, we will do a zoom-call to get to know each other and to go through practical details about food, activities and answer any unsolved questions
We will also organize a group chat on whatsapp.
-
No, all gear is provided.
You will however need warm clothes and hiking boots that will be able to deal with water and ice.
Except for that, you will get some practicle packing info in good time before the retreat starts
-
We have two big huts with a total of 8 separate rooms, and 18 sleeping spots.
This gives a lot of flexibility to organize different shared room options based on interest. Some people will prioritize having a single room and pay extra for that. And some might want to share a room with a friend, or even a new friend for a more budget friendly alternative.
This is something you will be asked about in the questionnaire.
